The sky's the limit with lunar eclipse

A TOTAL eclipse of the moon visible in the skies above the Capital this morning marked the Winter Solstice.

The sun, the moon and Earth were aligned perfectly, creating the first total lunar eclipse in three years and the first lunar eclipse on the day of the Winter Solstice since 1638.

The lunar eclipse began at 6.33am and the Royal Observatory said that the cold weather spell could even have enhanced the phenomenon.
