The death toll mounts as tragic victims fail to return home from their holiday break abroad

THERE has been a growing trend of young Scots suffering accidents on holiday abroad.

The rising numbers have raised concerns about Ian Knox, 19, of Glasgow, became one of the latest casualties when he fell from an apartment in the party resort of Kavos, Corfu in June.

The previous month Charlotte Faris, 23, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, plunged to her death during the early hours of the morning in Magaluf on Majorca.

She had only checked into the Teix Hotel just hours earlier, according to reports at the time.

In April fellow British tourist 28-year-old Benjamin Harper, from Twickenham, south-west London, died after falling from a balcony at another Magaluf hotel, the four-star Sol Antillas hotel.

It is believed that the roofer who was a member of a stag party, had gone out on to the balcony for a cigarette before leaning over and plunging to the ground.

In 2008, Darren McGinness, 17, of Barlanark, Glasgow, died after falling from his hotel balcony at the resort of Playa de Las Americas in Tenerife.

The tragedy happened only hours after he arrived for his holiday with friends.

He fell from a sixth floor balcony of the Columbus Aparthotel at about 5am.

In the summer of 2010, Mark Fraser, 24, of Inverurie, died after a similar fall at a resort on the Mediterranean holiday island of Cyprus.
