'Tensions high' at Facebook row bin depot

LABOUR councillor Gordon Munro claimed today that "tensions are high" at a bins depot where a manager was suspended for comments on Facebook.

The Evening News revealed earlier this month that Steven Thomson, a refuse collection manager at the council's Russell Road depot in Roseburn, was suspended after allegations he wrote a message on the site saying he was "in training" in case he had to "smash" one of the bin men at the depot.

Cllr Munro claimed the incident "is not the only incident of bullying at Roseburn depot" and called for council leader Jenny Dawe to investigate. But Cllr Dawe said there were policies in place and added: "It is difficult for me to sit here and comment on an allegation."

Afterwards, Cllr Munro said: "I am disappointed that the opportunity to make clear that bullying at Roseburn is not tolerated was not taken. Tensions are high at Roseburn."
