Teens facing fraud charges

TWO teenagers have been charged after a fraud fundraising account was set-up to raise cash for a closed city school.

The boys, aged 17 and 18, were charged in connection with the offence which supposedly generated cash for St Margaret's School, which shut in June despite mass protests after falling into financial difficulties.

A separate fundraising campaign to save the school had been established by parents of pupils to save the school, although the teenagers have not been charged in relation to this.

About 2.5 million was raised by the parents but the campaign to save the school was ultimately unsuccessful.

The school closed in June after 120 years, leaving pupils scrambling to find a place at one of the Capital's other schools in time for the new year.
