Teen's brunch couldn't beat breathalyser

A TEENAGER thought he was fit to drive after eating a big brunch the day after a booze session, a court heard.

But when Robbie Bridgeman was stopped by police, he was still more than twice the limit.

Bridgeman, 19, of Whiteside, Bathgate, pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He was caught after police followed him along West Main Street in Broxburn and stopped his car in a housing estate, the court was told.

Neil Robertson, defending, said his client had been drinking the night before and had fallen asleep at a friend's house at around 8pm. When he wakened on June 5, he ate a large meal and felt all right to drive. He thought that the alcohol would be out of his system.

Sheriff Donald Muirhead fined Bridgeman 335 and banned him from driving for 18 months.
