Teenager pipes up with stirring tribute

A TUNE written by a teenage piper and dedicated to his home city was played for the first time at the weekend.

Steven Barclay, 14, wrote The March to Inverness to mark the 150th anniversary of the Cadet Movement in the Highlands. It was played at an official reception held in Inverness Town House attended by provost Jimmy Gray.

Steven, whose father was a pipe major in the Gordon Highlanders, wrote the tune in 15 minutes, having been inspired by the dramatic scenery driving from the Cairngorms to Inverness.

Mr Gray said: "We were all delighted that Steven has written a piece of music that reflects our emotions when we catch first sight of our home."
