Police believe the suspect may have been travelling on the 201 or 263 bus from Hamilton to Blantyre and appealed for information.

Meanwhile, two men are being treated in hospital with head injuries following separate assaults.

One of the men, a 49-year-old, was said to be in a critical condition at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

Central Scotland Police said the incident happened at around 8.15am yesterday outside the Arc carwash in New Carron, Falkirk.

The force said they are currently questioning a 21-year-old man in relation to the incident.

A 51-year-old man was also taken to hospital after being seriously assaulted in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow yesterday. Strathclyde Police said the victim was walking along Main Street with two friends when a man started shouting at them from a tenement window.

A row between the two groups broke out, resulting in the man coming down from the tenement and striking the victim over the head with a bottle.
