Teenager has jaw broken in unprovoked attack

POLICE in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old had his jaw broken in an unprovoked attack in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident happened in Ponton Street, in the Tollcross area of the Capital, at around 3am.

The victim and his friend had left the Lava and Ignite nightclub and had walked into Ponton Street, when they were attacked by a group of men.

They both suffered facial injuries, and were taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The main suspect is described as white, 17 to 23-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall, medium build, with short blond hair. He was wearing a red checked shirt with a white pattern, and blue jeans.

A police spokesman said: "One of the victims suffered a broken jaw as a result of this unprovoked attack, and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify those responsible.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened should contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has any other information that can assist our inquiries, should also get in touch."
