Teenager given oxygen after tackling fire

A YOUNG woman was pulled unconscious from a house after collapsing while trying to put a fire out.

The 19-year-old was discovered on stairs inside the property in Oak Place, Mayfield, Midlothian, by firefighters after they were called by a neighbour who had spotted smoke coming from a window.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said the teenager was unconscious when crews arrived at about 7pm on Monday.

She was said to be suffering from smoke inhalation.

The woman was led to safety and given oxygen at the scene, but did not need to go to hospital.

The fire service spokes- woman urged people not to put themselves at risk by trying to tackle any fire that broke out in their home.

She said: “Our advice in that situation would always be to get out and stay out to keep yourself safe.”
