In Dundee, a woman was killed and a man seriously injured after they were hit by a car as they crossed a road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 44-year-old woman and 38-year-old man were injured when they were hit by a blue coloured Honda Civic CRX as they crossed Riverside Drive, near Discovery Point in Dundee, around 1:30am.

They were treated at the scene by a trauma team from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee before being taken to hospital, but the woman died several hours later.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "Tragically the female pedestrian subsequently died earlier this morning as a result of her injuries. The male is detained in Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed for several hours to allow full crash investigation procedures to take place."

Tayside Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to contact them.

In particular, officers are looking for people who got off a bus at a nearby car park and a woman and man who were passengers in a grey coloured Skoda Octavia taxi which stopped at the accident scene.

Officers also want to speak to anyone with information on the movements of a blue Honda Civic CRX, a black Volkswagen Polo, a white Honda CRX, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, a blue Ford Focus and the grey Skoda Octavia taxi before the collision.

A motorcyclist also died over the weekend when he collided with a car in the Highlands.
