Teen suffers eye injury in Links attack

A TEENAGE boy has suffered damage to his retina after being attacked as he walked through Leith Links with a friend.

The 17-year-old boy and his 16-year-old friend were walking through the Links when they passed a group of youths sitting at Lady Fife's Brae.

One of the teenage boys started talking to the friends before attempting to start a fight.

Another youth then joined in, punching the 17-year-old in the eye before the victim and his friend fled the scene.

The victim later went to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment on his eye, which had become swollen and painful. He was found to have suffered damage to his retina and will undergo further observation to determine the extent of the damage.

The incident happened at around 6:55pm on Friday.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, late teens, wearing dark clothes with a hood over his head and a scarf over his mouth.

The second suspect is only described as white in his mid to late teens.
