Teen ‘stabbed’ outside Glasgow’s Holyrood school

A TEENAGER has been rushed to hospital following a suspected stabbing at one of Europe’s largest state schools.

Police were called to Holyrood Secondary School in Glasgow’s south side around lunchtime amid reports that two 14-year-old boys were injured in a disturbance.

One of them was taken to city’s Victoria Infirmary, while the other did not require hospital treatment.

It is understood the attack took place outwith school grounds.

The full extent of the pupil’s injuries are not yet known, however they are understood to be serious.

A woman who entered the school grounds around 4.15pm said: “He’s going for at CT scan and an operation.”

Mum-of-three, Angela Medford, 40, whose children all attend Holyrood Secondary School, said: “There’s been an incident with a 14-year-old attacked in the street and it resulted in him being stabbed just after lunchtime.

“It’s shocking, absolutely shocking. There’s quite a lot of territorial conflict within the community and there’s such a diverse group within the school. Maybe it’s reflective of that. It’s unfortunate.”

Holyrood Secondary School has a roll of around 2000 pupils and 150 teachers. It is Scotland’s biggest secondary school.

In a letter to parental guardians, head teacher Laurie Byrne said “a serious incident, involving a couple of our older pupils” had happened, and added: “Please be reassured that the safety of our young people is paramount and I will do all that I can to ensure their safety is my school at all times.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police were called to a report of a disturbance in Boyd Street at Brereton Street in Govanhill.

“Two 14-year-old males were injured as a result of the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances. One of the injured males was taken to Glasgow Victoria Infirmary, and the other did not require hospital treatment.

“Police are following a positive line of enquiry.”
