Teen sick in court during sentence for sex attacks

A TEENAGER who admitted carrying out “nightmare” sex attacks on females as they walked alone in a Lothian town has been handed an extended sentence.

The teen was physically sick as he was told he would have to serve 18 months’ detention followed by 18 months on licence.

And as the 16-year-old retched and vomited in the dock at Livingston Sheriff Court, Sheriff Peter Hammond told him that his name would remain on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

The sheriff said the teenager, who carried out the attacks near his home in Livingston, West Lothian, in 2014 had pled guilty to two “serious” charges of sexual assault.

Describing the incidents as “frightening”, he said: “On two separate occasions you spotted a young female on her own on a public footpath. You followed her and sexually attacked her.

“This must have been a nightmare for any female walking alone in a public area to be accosted and attacked by a complete stranger.”
