Teen glassed man in act of vengeance

A TEENAGER smashed a glass over a man's head in an act of revenge.

Dean Davis carried out the unprovoked attack in the Saltire pub, Livingston, as "retribution" for remarks Andrew Aitken had allegedly made about his mother and sister.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard the barmaid witnessed the accused approaching Mr Aitken from the side holding an empty glass and hit him on the head.

Davis, 18, of Livingston, West Lothian, appeared for sentence yesterday. He earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting Andrew Aitken in the Saltire bar on January 24 this year. He also admitted stealing two cases of lager from a convenience store in the town the previous day.

Stewart Peebles, defending, said Davis had an "unfortunate background" and needed guidance, support and direction in his life. He told the court: "He clearly can't continue to behave like this. It's simply not acceptable and his attitude has to change."

Sheriff Donald Muirhead put Davis on probation for a year and ordered him to be electronically tagged for nine months and confined to his home for 12 hours every night.
