Teen detained for child porn possession

A TEENAGER who admitted to being in possession of indecent videos of children, and to distributing some of them on the internet, has been ordered to be detained for 18 months.

Andrew Slight, 19, of Gordon Avenue, Bonnyrigg, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court previously to the offences committed at his home between June 29 and October 8 last year. Sentence had been deferred until yesterday for background reports. Slight had no previous convictions.

Fiscal Depute Ian Wallace told Sheriff Neil Mackinnon that police had received information that Slight's internet address was being used for showing indecent images of children.

They obtained a search warrant and found 24 indecent videos of pre-pubescent children on his laptop.

Slight's defence agent, Elspeth McDougall, told Sheriff Mackinnon that Slight had a "degree of immaturity", adding: "He accepted responsibility immediately and did not try to say his possession of the videos was accidental."

Following his detention he will be on licence for three years and on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
