Teachers set to vote on strikes

A BALLOT on industrial action by teachers will go ahead after a meeting of the union's chiefs.

Leaders of the Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association (SSTA) last night voted overwhelmingly in favour of the ballot which is expected to take place towards the end of September.

An indicative ballot earlier this year showed a majority supported work to contracted hours over the new school curriculum.

Members want to see more information on subjects and greater training and money invested in the Curriculum for Excellence.

Ann Ballinger, general secretary of the SSTA, said: "We, very reluctantly decided we had no choice but to go ahead."
