Teachers set to receive head awards

EIGHTEEN teachers in Edinburgh are set to receive Standard for Headship Awards from the education secretary tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, in which a total of 155 teachers from across Scotland will receive the award, Michael Russell said: "We need confident and inspirational leaders in our schools if we are to get the best from teachers and pupils and make the most of the improvements being made under Curriculum for Excellence.

"Meeting the Standard for Headship is a huge achievement and will have taken a great deal of hard work and study.

"I am confident that the 155 teachers graduating are well qualified to help drive forward change in the profession."

The Edinburgh award winners are Pamela Briggs, James Brown, David Dempster, Helen Donaldson, Christopher Kelly, David Kick, Susan Leach, Carol Morwood, Richard Napier, Andrew Petrie, Alan Richmond, Christopher Santini, David Simpson, Christopher D Smith, Maria Anne Spiers, Isla Finlayson-Crawshaw, Nick McClellan and Wendy Davidson.
