Taymouth Marina, which opens this week at Kenmore on the banks of Loch Tay, will create or support about 50 jobs, operators said.

The project incorporates 40 berths sheltered by a breakwater extending 70 metres onto the loch.

Vistors and locals will also get the chance to hire a variety of boats or master the art of sailing and power boating in courses on the loch.

The development also includes a new waterfront restaurant and wine bar, as well as self-catering apartments and houses.

The project is the brainchild of Crieff-based owners Eric and Naomi Strickland, partners in architects McKenzie Strickland Associates.

Picturesque

Mr Strickland said: “If you were to ask a tourist to distil everything that people imagine about the romantic Scotland we all love into a few words they would say mountains, castles, lochs, salmon, deer, whisky and dramatic scenery. Kenmore encapsulates it all.”

Project bosses said the development has already generated 22 new jobs, and it is expected to support at least 30 more local jobs as it pulls visitors into the area.

Richard Pinn, regional director at national tourism agency VisitScotland, said: “The development of Taymouth Marina at Kenmore is fantastic news for visitors to rural Perthshire, as well as local residents.

“Loch Tay and surrounding area are incredibly picturesque and in this, the Year of Natural Scotland, it is great to see the development of this natural asset into a fabulous attraction that should also help to boost the finances of the local economy and create new jobs.”
