Tattoo snares on-the-run football fan

A FOOTBALL fan who gave false details to police was eventually snared by a distinctive Hibs tattoo on his arm, a court heard.

Stewart Brown broke his conditions of bail and home curfew by disappearing from his mother's address in Whitecraig near Musselburgh.

The 20-year-old moved to his girlfriend's home in Hawthorn Road, Galashiels, but when police visited the flat on 10 April after a noise complaint he gave them a false name and date of birth.

Three days later police were called out to another address in Hawthorn Road at 3am following another complaint about noise and again he gave officers the wrong details.

The following day Lothian and Borders Police circulated "intelligence" that Brown had disappeared from his bail address, where he was supposed to be observing a 7pm to 6am curfew. It included a description mentioning the distinctive Hibs tattoo on his arm and the officers in Galashiels realised it was Brown they had been speaking to all along.

Brown, who is currently serving a year-long jail sentence, was sentenced to another two months in jail at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
