Tasty offer of support

Around a dozen curry houses are to donate £1 from every curry sold to the Pakistan flood victims.

Assader Ali, pictured, owner of Eastern Spices and Bollywood Bites, in Canonmills, and Bombay Feast, in Drylaw, came up with the fundraiser to help those who have lost loved ones or their homes.

Money raised from sales on September 6 and September 8 will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

"The idea is that every participating takeaway will donate a pound from every meal to Pakistan. We would like to invite all other restaurants and takeaways in Edinburgh, not just Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi, to join us."

Takeaways signed up so far include Cinnamon, on Portobello High Street, and Paprika, on Ferry Road.
