Tame fox put down after 'battering with golf club'

A TAME fox died after being battered by a golfer at a popular golf club.

The animal was attacked by the man with a golf club before a club official at Peterculter Golf Course had to put it out of its misery.

Members of the club said the fox had become well-known in recent weeks with some golfers feeding it regularly.

Several golfers had also taken pictures of the animal on their mobile phones.

Police were yesterday investigating the incident.

Officers spoke to members who reported the crime after it happened.

A club spokesman said: "The committee has been made aware of the incident, which allegedly took place at the club.

"It appears the individual involved is a member and the committee is speaking to this person and others who were present at the time to fully investigate the matter and what action, if any, will be taken.

"The committee is unable to comment further."

It's understood the golfer allegedly responsible claimed the fox had been looking for food in his golf club bag before he struck it.

He also said one of his children had previously been bitten by a fox.

Scottish SPCA inspector John Carle said: "Our investigations are continuing."
