Edinburgh-based Morph Costumes have advised customers to wear the £28.49 suicide bomber get-up “at their peril”. Morph describe the look – complete with a beard, bomb, gun and ammunition – as ideal for brave people who like to take a risk.
Now veterans’ support group the UK National Defence Association has called for a boycott.
UKNDA chief executive officer Andy Smith said: “If it’s a joke, it’s a sick joke and one which all decent people will rightly condemn. We call on fancy-dress shops to refuse to sell or hire out these Taleban costumes, and we call on the public to boycott any retailers who continue selling them.”
Retired Captain Doug Beattie, who won the Military Cross, said: “It’s in bad taste for the families of loved ones lost in Afghanistan and in acts of terrorism like the recent events in France.
“It’s also in bad taste by portraying a Muslim in that way.”
