CAMPAIGNERS calling for a mandatory prison sentence for knife crimes lay red carnations at the Scottish Parliament yesterday, each representing someone killed through knife crime.

The demo came as MSPs debated Holyrood's Criminal Justice and Licensing Bill, which rejected plans to introduce mandatory six-month jail terms for anyone caught carrying a knife.
