Takeaway cleans up

A TAKEAWAY food business in West Calder that was closed by environmental health officers has reopened.

The May Garden was found to be so dirty that there was a real risk to food safety and public health.

West Lothian Council's environmental health officers took emergency action to close it earlier this month and continued to monitor the premises.

Officers also discovered that the ventilation within the kitchen had not been working, contributing to a large build-up of grease and dirt.

It followed the closure of China House in Livingston for four days on March 3.

The May Garden reopened last Thursday.
