Take your tot to our official photo shoot to enter competition

TODAY the Evening News launches its search for the top tot in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our snappers will be holding photo shoots at easy-to-access venues for the next fortnight for parents and their little ones to attend.

Once all the entries have been received, the pictures will be printed in the Evening News every day from February 1 and readers will get the chance to vote for their favourites.

The competition winner will scoop a 1000 cash prize.

All tots aged one day to four years old are eligible to take part in the official photo shoots at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre next Saturday from 10am and 6pm and The Gyle Shopping Centre next Sunday from 10am to 6pm.

The only restriction is that children must be aged under five for the duration of the competition which closes on March 16.

The initial stage of the competition will be broken down into four categories: 0-12 months, 12-24 months, 2-3 years and 3-4 years, with each published on February 1,2,3 and 4 respectively and readers will have a week to vote for their favourite in each section before a final 40 is established.

Every week until March 9 the ten tots to receive the least votes will be cut from the competition until only the top ten remain. One final round of voting will then determine who will be crowned the Evening News' top tot.

Last year's Freya Aldred won mum Nicole 500 worth of SemiChem vouchers and 500 in cash which she used to take the family on holiday.

"The whole family as well as friends got involved last year - there were lots of people who voted for her," said Nicole.

"Each time she got through she was really excited and when she won she thought she was famous.

"When she won I was over the moon and I wish all the contestants the best of luck."

Evening News promotions manager Ruth Hunter-Pepper said: "I'm sure there isn't a mum or dad in the land that wouldn't want to see a picture of their child in the paper.

"We know there are lots of lovely youngsters out there, so let's show them off."
