Two-hundred acts will appear on 11 stages during the course of the festival, which lasts until tomorrow.

This year's T sees a host of bands from the nineties take to the stage.

Leading the indie revival today are Pulp who will perform on the main stage tonight and Ocean Colour Scene.

Sir Tom Jones said: "I`d heard a lot about T in the Park, and as we were driving in I saw all the punters - who looked very interesting.

"They all looked the part anyway. For me this is fantastic. I don`t play many festivals, or haven`t done in the past. But this is great - you see all sorts of people. And nine times out of ten it`s a younger crowd."

Last night saw the return of the festival's Fancy Dress Friday.

Nathaniel Bicker, 29, from South Shields, and his friends dressed as Pink Ladies to get into the spirit of the event.

He said: "This is our first time at T in the Park after hearing amazing things about it. We came up last night and we spent hours in a queue to get here and then even longer trying to put our tent up, but it's all going to be worth it.

"I'm especially looking forward to seeing Coldplay and Swedish House Mafia. I'm just going to try to see as much as I can."

Tayside Police issued a statement to say there is no truth in the "persistent rumours" on social network sites about drug-related deaths at the festival.

The statement said: "These unfounded rumours are causing concern, particularly to family and friends of revellers attending the event.

"Tayside Police wishes to stress that there is no truth to these rumours."
