IF YOU are on a standard tariff paying your bill each quarter you could save hundreds by switching to a dual-fuel online deal paid by direct debit.

The average energy bill is now about 1,250 a year, but some online tariffs still average around 1,000. Much of the recent demand has been for fixed-rate tariffs, in anticipation of more increases.

Switching to a tariff fixed to 2014 can save you around 120-130 a year.

The current market leader is the EDF Energy Fix Saver v2.
