Swiss date offers David Cameron rallying point

THE Prime Minister will today launch a fightback on his government's economic credibility by insisting that slashing public spending will take the UK out of the economic danger zone.

In a keynote speech at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, David Cameron intends to challenge his critics after a week where the government was stunned by a 0.5 per cent contraction in the economy and under fire from the outgoing chief executive of the CBI Sir Richard Lambert for having "no long term vision on economic growth".

But today Mr Cameron will say: "Our first priority is to kill off the spectre of massive sovereign debts.

"Those who argue that dealing with our deficit and promoting growth are somehow alternatives are wrong. You cannot put off the first in order to promote the second. We can't just flick the switch."
