Swim funding for primaries

The Scottish Government has announced £800,000 funding for free swimming lessons for primary pupils.

The money is intended to ensure all children have the opportunity to learn to swim before moving on to secondary school.

Sports Minister Shona Robison said: "The skills our children learn when swimming not only give them confidence in the water but provide them with a fun way of being active which will stay with them throughout their lives."

Councils can decide how best to design services in their area and submit detailed plans to sportscotland, who are working in partnership with Scottish Swimming to help support implementation.
