Some 400 children were involved in the intermediary trials during December, in both Edinburgh Sheriff Court and Leith Sheriff Court before five serving sheriffs.

The event, sponsored by Chamberlain McBain and Morton Fraser, is now in its third year and has seen the competitors engage with solicitors, advocates, paralegals and sheriffs.

Gerald Murphy, of Chamberlain McBain, said: “The aim is to support the Curriculum for Excellence and the consensus among schools is that the mock court case has succeeded.”
