Support for kayak shed plan

PLANS by the Edinburgh Kayak Club to build a new shed next to the Craiglockhart Boating Pond are set to win approval.

Council officials have recommended that the request to demolish the existing Colinton Road shed and replace it with a larger shed should be granted.

The application had received 18 letters of support from individual members of the public, including members and former members of the EKC.

In a report for councillors, John Bury, the council's head of planning, said: "The proposal is for improved storage facilities for an accepted recreational use in this area of open space.

"The amount of open space lost as a result of the proposal is small and will not significantly impact on the quality or character of the local environment.

"The benefits to the local community and those who use this recreational facility outweigh the loss of open space."
