Supermarket raises £8k for cancer funds

THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support by staff and customers at the Sainsbury's store at Blackhall.

Customer collections and staff fundraising helped raise a total of 8,400 to provide support for people living with cancer.

Human resources manager Shay McColl said: "We had a great time over the year, taking part in Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning, Reindeer Stars at Christmas and local football tournaments. But the main thing was we managed to raise lots of money.

"The Macmillan Information and Support Centre at the Western General Hospital is so local for most of our customers that we knew they would want to support us in raising money."

Macmillan fundraising manager Pamela Williamson said: "Sainsbury's staff came up with some fantastic ideas over the year and, with the generosity of their customers, have all helped Macmillan to support many more people living with cancer."
