Supermarket bid rejected

A BID to create a 24-hour supermarket on the old Big W store site at The Jewel looks set to be rejected.

Aegon UK Property Fund already has planning permission to build a non-food retail warehouse and garden centre on the site, at Milton Link, but it has applied for the change.

Planning officials are set to tell councillors that there are six large supermarkets and many convenience stores in the surrounding area, meaning there is no demand.
