Superheroes to swoop on youth games

HUNDREDS of superheroes are to descend on Meadowbank for the opening ceremony of this year's Edinburgh Airport Youth Games.

Around 1,800 schoolchildren from across the Capital will take part in the games dressed in fancy dress costumes in line with this year's Super Human theme.

They will take part in athletics, football, golf, gymnastics, rugby and swimming during the contest, now in its eleventh year. New sports on offer include water polo and aquathon.

There will also be a Festival of Fun event with activities including a climbing tower, bouncy castle and sumo suits.

Edinburgh Leisure chief executive Keith Jackson said: "We are looking forward to another great event this year."
