Suicide bomber 'was Kurdish rebel'

A SUICIDE bomber who blew himself up on Istanbul's main square on Sunday, wounding 32 people, came from Turkey's mainly Kurdish south-east and belonged to a separatist rebel group, the city's governor has said.

The bomber had been identified as Vedat Acar, born in 1986 in Van province near the Iranian border, he said.
