Suicide blast in Somali capital

A SUICIDE bomber blew himself up at the gates of the presidential palace in the Somali capital Mogadishu yesterday but there were no other casualties, police said.

Police said the bomber tried to jump on to an armoured vehicle driving into the palace that was part of a convoy of peacekeepers. The peacekeepers fired at the bomber to stop him and he detonated his device.
