Substance abuse policy is launched

A NEW policy on alcohol and drug misuse by employees has been launched by the council.

Previously it had two separate policies but was obliged to bring them together into a single approach.

In a report published today, acting director of corporate services, David Jack, said: "The proposed policy offers support to these employees whilst ensuring appropriate standards of attendance, conduct and performance are maintained.

"The policy will also ensure that the council can strike a balance between providing support for individuals with a dependency problem and using disciplinary measures for conduct-related issues."

Council leader Jenny Dawe said: "It is important that we keep our policy up-to-date to ensure that proper support is available to staff."
