Students off on jolly green charity jaunt

FOUR Scottish students are preparing to claim a world first by driving 10,000 miles to Mongolia in a biodiesel car.

The St Andrews University students will race teams from around the world in the Mongol Rally to raise money for the Mercy Corps charity. The team – dubbed the Green Yaks – leave the UK on 24 July and drive through 21 countries to the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

Team leader Teddy Wadsworth said: "The BP oil spill has shown exactly how important alternative fuels like biodiesel are, so we're happy to be able to have our adventure, raise funds for charity and do our bit for the environment too.

"Our mothers are terrified for us and friends can't believe we're doing it, so we're all the more determined to raise as much money for charity as possible"

The team members all study sustainable development.
