Stubbing out imported cigs

A SUMMIT discussing the impact of smoking on the Lothians' communities could help rid the area of illegal cigarettes.

City-based charity ASH Scotland said it hoped today's event, which brings together a range of experts and organisations, could reduce tobacco smuggling by forming new policy.

Chief executive Sheila Duffy said: "The selling of illicit cigarettes is an issue for all of us.

"Illegal sales undermine legislation and public health messages that aim to encourage smokers to quit and prevent our children from starting.

"In addition, it brings crime to our streets."
