Stub out dodgy fag dealers, buyers told

CUSTOMS officials have issued a warning to anyone planning to attend a car boot sale over the Easter weekend to be on their guard against counterfeit cigarettes.

Counterfeit tobacco, often coming from the Far East and made in underground factories in unhygienic conditions, can be almost impossible to discern from the real product, according to experts.

Officials say the Easter weekend is a popular time for car boot sales, with dodgy traders looking to snare customers.

Stuart Crookshank, assistant director for HMRC, said: "Those involved are not concerned if they are selling to under-age young people and the illicit trade has a devastating impact on legitimate retailers and the local community."
