Street closed as Policeman attacked by own pet dog

A city street was closed off by police after a man was attacked by how own pet dog.

The 51-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to both arms in the attack on Sir Walter Scott Drive in Inverness.

The dog, believed to be a mixed breed Staffordshire bull terrier and American Bulldog was put down at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The male was conveyed to Raigmore hospital for treatment and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

“In order to maintain public safety Sir Walter Scott Drive was closed for approximately 30 minutes whilst veterinary assistance arrived.

“During this period the dog was controlled by Police dog handlers assisted by divisional staff. Unfortunately the dog required to be humanely euthanised at the scene.”

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident on Sunday afternoon to contact them on 101.
