Stranded puppy sparks rescue operation

A WAYWARD puppy sparked a major rescue operation after falling 30 feet from a wall and ending up in the Water of Leith.

Eight fire appliances and 31 firefighters were called to the area under Dean Bridge yesterday morning, including specialists trained in water rescues.

The five-month-old pup, Flicker, which firefighters said was similar to a poodle, managed to get itself out of the water but was left stranded.

A firefighter carried out a line rescue to reach the dog, as well as using a 9m ladder, and lifted the pooch to safety in a holdall.

A fire spokeswoman said "The area was quite difficult to access."
