Store shares out charity cash

John Lewis Edinburgh has donated its first pool of funding to local community groups as part of its charitable giving scheme Community Matters.

The scheme involves the retailer pledging a donation of £3000 every three months to be split between three nominated community groups, with the first organisations to benefit being Barnardo’s, Scottish Women’s Aid and Cyrenians.

Store customers have been involved in deciding how much each good cause would receive via a token voting system.

Barry Matheson, managing director at John Lewis Edinburgh, said: “We are delighted with the response we have had from our customers to the launch of the Community Matters scheme. It is exciting for us to see how the vote has been split and for us to now make the donations to these very worthwhile community groups.”

Organisations hoping to take part in Community Matters can visit the Place to Eat restaurant in John Lewis Edinburgh to pick up a nomination form.
