Stolen violin returned to teenage girl after appeal

A VIOLIN stolen from a family home has been returned anonymously after a police appeal.

The instrument belonged to a teenage girl and was taken during a break-in at her parents' home in Dalry, North Ayrshire, last weekend.

Strathclyde Police issued their appeal on Tuesday and the violin was returned that night.

Officers said the theft had caused considerable distress to the young owner who was invited to play with violinist Nicola Benedetti last year.

PC Lorna Cowan said today: "The family are delighted the violin was returned, however they are still extremely distressed that someone broke into their home and stole personal items, as well as damaging their belongings.

"We are still making inquiries into who is responsible for the break-in and would appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident to contact officers at Kilbirnie Police Office."
