Stolen statue is recovered

A BRONZE statue of nursery rhyme characters Jack and Jill worth £10,000 which was stolen by thieves has been recovered by police at a scrap metal dealership.

Residents from the Lower Broomieknowe area of Bonnyrigg, Midlothian contacted police at around 6.35pm on Monday after noticing the 5ft garden statue was missing.

A short time later, the Bernard Hunter dealership in Gilmerton Road reported it had taken possession of a statue matching its description.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry to identify the individual responsible for the theft.

Chief Inspector Matt Richards said: “We are delighted to have recovered the statue so speedily and are grateful for the assistance we received from Bernard Hunter.”
