Steve stole Sean’s role

The lead role in the 1968 classic film The Thomas Crown Affair was originally written for Sean Connery, a Hollywood writer has revealed.

The movie stars Steve McQueen as a playboy who amuses himself by organising bank robberies.

The role went to McQueen as a result of Connery’s indecision, a move he has reportedly regretted ever since.

Alan Trustman said he wrote the screenplay for Connery, adding the Scot had finally admitted to producer Walter Mirisch that he should have taken the role.

Trustman was reportedly furious Connery did not take the part as it meant he had to rewrite the screenplay.
