Step up to join Capital's Walk Week

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to step up and take part in Walk Edinburgh Week.

The week features a programme of 26 different free group walks across the city for all ages and abilities.

It will begin with the Walk-Ed fair in Princes Street Gardens on May 20, from 12pm to 3pm, with guided walks around the gardens and a healthy lifestyle fair featuring activities such as tai-chi and lawn tennis.

NHS Lothian's director of public health and health policy, Dr Alison McCallum, said: "Walking is a great way for everyone to be active, but is particularly good for people just starting out or returning to physical activity."

Councillor Paul Edie, health leader for Edinburgh, said: "I would urge everyone to put their trainers and boots on for Walk Edinburgh Week."
