Stencils draw out message on knives

A NEW campaign to combat knife crime is making its mark on the Capital's streets.

Chalk stencils have appeared on pavements in the north of the city as part the No Knives, Better Lives drive to make young people aware of the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife. Adverts are also being posted in bus stops, shop windows, lamp posts and on phone boxes.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "No Knives, Better Lives is about encouraging people to think about the fact that knife crime doesn't just affect the person carrying the knife or the victim of any stabbing. It also has a major impact on families, friends and communities.

"Far too many lives are lost and people injured though mindless acts of violence."
