Station refit takes a big step forward

THE first set of escalators for the revamped Waverley station have been lowered into place.

The new escalators, which are due to be operational before Christmas, will allow passengers to travel from the station concourse up to a new exit to Princes Street and will be covered by a glass canopy.

The first two of six sets of escalators were fitted yesterday, with the remaining ones due to be fitted in October.

The station revamp is due to be completed by early 2013.
