State-of-the-art computer lab opened

A NEW state-of-the-art computing research laboratory has been officially opened at Abertay University in memory of Lord Thomson of Monifieth, the former Labour Commonwealth Secretary.

The opening of the new facility at the School of Computing and Engineering Systems was performed by his widow, Lady Thomson, and daughter Caroline, who is the BBC's chief operating officer.

A university spokesman said: "The new prototyping and research laboratory, which was supported by a generous donation from the Lord Thomson of Monifieth Charitable Fund, will help students gain real-world experience and develop prototypes of the computing systems of the future."
